(December 1, 2004) Dr. Hannah Britton today announced that the political science department has had a fourth undergraduate major recently accepted to attend an international conference. Sponsored by The Institute for International Mediation and Conflict Resolution, this 2004/2005 Africa Symposium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution will be held in Cape Town, South Africa. Attending will be T.J. Harvey, who is active in MSU's Model UN and is a former chair of the College Republicans.
Previously, political science undergraduate majors have attended programs sponsored by this Institute. Jennifer Phillips, Smith Lilley, and Lindsay Buffum attended a program held at the Hague in the Netherlands. Jennifer Phillips went on to win a national Harry S. Truman Scholarship, and Smith Lilley won a national Mitchell Scholarship. Lindsay Buffum is a candidate for the Truman this year.
According to Dr. Britton, the IIMCR has only recently started a program of conflict resolution in Cape Town, and T.J. Harvey will be one of the first students at any American university to attend.
