Interdisciplinary Genetics Graduate Program


An opportunity is offered to a student who wishes to work toward Masters or Doctoral degrees in Life Sciences with concentrations in Genetics. The Genetics Program is an interdisciplinary curriculum that utilizes the staff and facilities available in the various departments and colleges. A wide array of plant and animal material is available for genetic investigation.

The student's complete program will be formulated in the department of his/her choice. For completion of the Masters thesis degree option, a comprehensive exam, 24 total hours of course work, and a thesis are required. A Masters non-thesis degree option is also available. A comprehensive exam and 30 total hours of course work are required for completion of the non-thesis degree option. Written preliminary and oral comprehensive exams, a dissertation, and course work, as designated by the student’s graduate committee, are required for the doctoral degree.  The students planning a major or minor in Genetics should use the GNS prefix for courses in which they enroll. A Bachelor of Science in the biological or physical sciences is considered as a prerequisite for receiving graduate credit for courses taken.
