GOALS and MISSION

PREPS purposefully distinguishes itself as a service center. The statement of mission is to promote growth of the whole educator and the whole student through educational partnerships across Mississippi. To this end, PREPS assists Mississippi K-12 education in any and every way possible. This mission distinguishes PREPS from other educational consortia. PREPS provides staff development only as these development opportunities are consistent with PREPS mission and goals established by member districts. So, PREPS program of work is fluid in that as member districts' needs emerge, PREPS’ focus stretches to meet those emerging needs. PREPS intends to accomplish the following during the school year:

  • Provide an instructional program evaluation process tailored to assist districts in aligning district-specific curriculum with state and national content frameworks
  • Research, develop, and deliver curriculum materials, instructional techniques, and assessment items into teaching units consistent with the objectives of statewide end-of-course assessments in US History, Algebra I, Biology I and English II
  • Research, develop, and deliver curriculum materials, instructional techniques and assessment items into teaching units consistent with the objectives of statewide language arts and math frameworks as well as the state assessment system for grades 2-9
  • Research, develop, and deliver classroom management strategies to address everyday behavior issues of the K-12 classroom as well as the isolated, large-scale incident of crisis in public schools and districts
  • Provide members with leadership towards state policy including, but not limited to, state accreditation, reading initiatives, crisis management, conservatorship
  • Guide districts in school program and facility planning such that these two components of schools and districts are understood to be inseparable parts of quality education and help districts determine the extent to which equitable programs meet individual student needs in all aspects
