Oilseed crops are those crops that produce seedscontaining significant amounts of oil. The oil is extracted from the harvested seed and can be used for several purposes. The purpose of most interest for the feedstocks researchers is biodiesel production.
Several field studies are underway to assess which oilseed crops are viable choices for Mississippi. Researchers are also working to develop efficient cropping methods for oilseed crops. The oilseed research is being carried out at the following locations: the North Farm on Mississippi State's main campus, the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center, the Coastal Plain Experiment Station, the Coastal Research and Extension Center, and the Delta Research and Extension Center.
