During an April campus ceremony, retiring Mississippi State President Charles Lee announced a $10 million gift to the university from Judy and Bobby Shackouls. The Houston, Texas, couple endowed an honors college named in their honor. Bobby Shackouls, a 1972 MSU chemical engineering graduate from Greenville, recently retired as president and chief executive officer of Burlington Resources Inc.

The Shackouls Honors College draws regional and national attention because of its size and structure. Though the College includes over 1,000 students, Honors classes are typically limited to no more than twenty students. Students receive individualized instruction from faculty members who challenge them to explore their potential.
