bct-l: Call for Comments and Recommendations on Revision of Business and Computer Technology Curricula

Title: Call for Comments and Recommendations on Revision of Business and Computer Technology Curricula

Research and Curriculum Unit staff are beginning the curriculum revision process for the 11 secondary and 19 postsecondary curriculum frameworks scheduled to be revised in the 2003-2004 school year.  Secondary Business and Computer Technology is included in this listing.  As part of the process, we are seeking comments and suggestions on these frameworks prior to convening revision teams in the fall of 2003.  A summary of survey results will be shared with MDE staff, technical committees, and the revision team.

A survey instrument has been created for each curriculum and posted to the Internet.  To access the survey instruments, go to the RCU web site at www.rcu.msstate.edu and click on the link labeled “Curriculum Revision Surveys” in the upper left hand margin of the page.  A copy of the current curriculum framework can also be downloaded or viewed by clicking on the link labeled “Download Curriculum Frameworks”.  While the survey has been designed with teachers in mind, it can also be used by directors and other administrators, craft and advisory committee members, and other interested parties.

In the revision process, a special emphasis will be placed on integrating standards related to occupational, academic, workplace, and technology skills.  Also an emphasis will be placed on enhancing the suggested instructional strategies and suggested assessment strategies.  Specific comments on how these emphases can be achieved are requested.

In completing the surveys, please remember that:

·       You must enter all responses at one sitting and click the “Submit” button at the end of the survey to have your responses recorded.

·       A survey cannot be saved so that you can return and complete it at a later date.
·       If you submit your survey and return at a later date to enter additional information, your previous response will be overwritten.

·       You may want to print the blank survey out or review it online to get a feel for the questions, then review the curriculum framework, and then return to complete the survey.

·       You do not have to answer all questions, only those where you have a particular comment or suggestion.
·       ALL RESPONSES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY MAY 31, 2003.

If you have trouble accessing the surveys, please contact Jimmy McCully at the Research and Curriculum Unit.  Email:  jsm3@ra.msstate.edu.  Phone:  (662) 325-2510.  Renee Gammill is the RCU staff member assigned to the Business and Computer Technology curriculum revision and can be contacted by email at rgc4@ra.msstate.edu or by telephone at 662-325-2510.
