This message has been posted to the Business and Computer Technology Teachers Discussion List. There is not much time left for all school districts to fully prepare for the new graduation requirements in economics! Forty-five districts have made extraordinary progress in achieving Master Teachers of Economics (MTE) who are well-prepared to teach the one semester course in economics that will be required next fall starting with the class entering high school. These districts are on the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) Web site: http://www.mscee.org. Click on Programs. The Master Teachers of Economics achieved 86% on the Test of Economic Literacy, which is up from 62% in a study completed in 2006 of social studies teachers. The program is provided by MCEE through its two university centers at MSU and USM and is supported by the Mississippi Department of Education. Teachers can register now for the MTE. Contact the MCEE offices for additional information at 601-974-1325. The Mississippi Council on Economic Education invites teachers to participate in Mississippi's first "Focus: Globalization" workshop on Wednesday, October 10 in Jackson. Teachers who are accepted will receive a $25 stipend (paid upon completion of the workshop), 0.5 CEU's, the "Focus: Globalization" curriculum, and the "Virtual Economics" CD-Rom from the National Council on Economic Education. To register and learn more information log onto www.mcee.org. The eighth publishing season of Mississippi History Now begins with an article, "Good Roads," that covers the building of U.S. Highway 90 along the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the early 20th century. The article opens with Mississippi's first automobile appearing in Biloxi in 1900. Read Mississippi History Now at http://mshistory.k12.ms.us. More than 100 articles, written by noted historians, are archived on the site where students and teachers can find over seven years of published material. The Mississippi History on Loan program is ready to send you videotapes that will enhance your classroom instruction. Over 200 available titles are appropriate for use in history, English, art, and music classes. The videos are free except for return first-class postage.
