computerdisc-l: addressing your messages

Hello,

I am thankful for the number of responses to
my first posting, the question about Computer
Dimensions use in your classrooms.

Let me clarify something for those of you who
are new to using mailing lists.

There are two ways to respond to messages
that appear on the list. If you address your message
back to the person directly, he or she (only) will
receive that message. In order for everyone to see
your response and thus spread the benefit around,
everyone should address their messages to

computerdisc-l@Lists.MsState.Edu

This way everyone gets every message and can follow
the group's conversations.

The first way is like talking face to face with someone
in an isolated room; the second is like turning in circles
in the middle of a busy room with numerous conversations
going on at once. You can join in when you want or just
listen (read) and learn.

By all means, both have their proper use. If Steve Rusk and I
want to talk soccer, we should do so in private email. However,
if we both are dealing with a particular situation with some
software, someone else in the group might have some insight.

Oh, well . . .

Hope this wasn't too long or confusing, I did this first thing
in the morning before any caffeine intake.

Blessings,
Dane Conrad
North Forrest Junior High
