Cynthia-- Our school district paid for those "black skins" (at an approximate cost of $25 each) and we used them for the first time this year. They were helpful but believe it or not, the students still look down at their fingers. They can't see the letters on the keys, but they can still look down to see if they are reaching where they want to reach. I used the black covers on the keyboards and cardboard covers that fit over the keyboards. That worked pretty well. Lots of current research says that we should allow students visual access to the keyboard but that we should encourage them not to look down. It's just hard for me to abide by that sometimes!
