Re: computerdisc-l: Inclusion

I have several special education students in my classes. Their teacher
has placed the students who do not need a lot of "one-one" help in five
of my classes. In my sixth class, which is the seventh period of the
day, the teacher comes into the class with 8 students and helps them
where needed. She has also put all the template document files from
Microsoft Works on her computer in her room so that she can help her
students during other periods of the day. We have done this for two
years, and it has been very successful. While some of these students do
need more time and more help, some of them are among my best students.

About the students coming in after the semester break, I too have had
this happen, and it is extremely challenging. I have these students
keyboarding most of the time. That way, even though they cannot earn a
credit, they will have achieved some skills when they leave my class at
the end of the year. We have no study halls here at Caledonia Middle
School, so there is no other options or places to put them.
