Re: computerdisc-l: Comuters freezing

Does anyone out there have trouble with their computers freezing up? I'm a
D site and I can count on at least two computers freezing every period every
day. In my class with 24 students, I usually have about 6 computers freeze
each day.

Usually the hourglass just sits there and Ctrl-Alt-Delete won't work. So I
have the students turn off their computers, I go to the back room and take
their names off the connection screen on the file server, then have them log
back on again. Of course they get the message that says they are trying to
log on to too many stations simultaneously. It usually takes between five
and ten minutes before it will let them in again.

I know that if I ask the students to go to a certain application I should
not have them all go at once. But sometimes it doesn't matter--the
computers still freeze up. In fact, my computer freezes sometimes. My
computer has even frozen up when no one else was in the room and I was the
only one working.

If we are working in MicroType Pro and the computers freeze, students can
log on as guest or s1 and still get to their MTP lessons. But if we are
working in Microsoft Works, I don't think they can log on that way. They
must log on as their username and password so they can save documents to
their directory. I've worked around that problem before and had them save
their work to the hard drive of their computer then the next day I would put
it in their directory etc. etc. etc., but that is something extra to
remember to do.

Just wondering if anyone else has these problems.
