computerdisc-l: keyboarding

I recently received a new student that was a unit and a half ahead of my
classes.  From talking to the student I was told that their CD classes
didn't teach keyboarding because it was taught in the 6th grade.  I didn't
see how this was possible with the curriculum being state mandated.  I was
told by the other CD teacher that she'd heard some taught keyboarding at
the end of the year instead of the beginning.  

I was wondering what the your different methods of teaching keyboarding
were.

I do intense keyboarding the first 9 weeks so that the keys are learned
before the work we do ongoing throughout the rest of the year.  Then
keyboarding is continued at least 1 day a week throughout the year and when
Horizon assignments are finished.
