computerdisc-l: SPED Help

The computer discovery course allows a student to obtain a Carnegie Unit to apply towards their graduation requirements.  Because this is a Carnegie Unit course, all students must complete the required module assignments.  These modules are assigned in order for students to reach the proficiency necessary in order to successfully complete the course.

If a student is unable to successfully complete the course during their eighth grade year,  they are then required to take keyboarding and computer application at the high school level in order to receive a diploma.  Each of these a quarter course and is usually addressed during a student's ninth grade year.

Accommodations are made for special education students who experience difficulty.  Accommodations are any techniques that alter the academic setting or environment and enable students to show more accurately what they actually know.  In a course such as computer discovery accommodations are limited.  Accommodations such as extra time,  enlarged text,  keyboard modifications for single limb, etc., might be a few.

I hope these ideas will help. We have researched both SPED, 504 and other problems to help kids.  The best thing I found is to make these students student assistants during another time of the day.  They can come in pass out papers and have time to work on assignments for extra time.  The can check papers and get an idea of how it has to be completed.  Another method is to team your SPED with a high achiever or enrichment student and have them work together.  This will slow you enrichment student down and help you SPED student.
