I was visiting with Cheryl Lott and others and we were discussing the money for upgrades, etc. The MDE is giving as much money as is available for your upgrades. The people we need to be talking to are your legislators. I went out on the Web and downloaded the Senators and Representatives and their addresses, etc. I was going to create a database and labels and write them a letter telling them about Computer Discovery and how important it is to keep it up dated, etc. I was also going to set up an address book so I can email them regularly. Then, I had this great thought. . .if you are teaching business letters in word processing, you could let your students divide up the names and they could each write a Senator or Representative and tell them about Computer Discovery and ask them for their help in providing funds to keep the program up to date. What do you think?? We could also invite your local legislators to visit the labs. Those of you with older labs could tell them how important it is to upgrade labs since you are teaching with Windows 3.1, etc. If you want to do this, go to http://www.ls.state.ms.us/h_roster.htm and print your representatives and go to http://www.ls.state.ms.us/s_roster.htm and print your senators. Let's don't sit back and wait for others to take care of us. Let's do our part to ask for assistance. Your programs are the envy of the rest of the nation and we need to work hard to keep them that way for our students. Dr. Patti S.
