Last year, we used gaggle.net for student e-mail services in the classroom. The service is FREE to school, teachers, and students. Students were able to check e-mail both at home and at school. It works just like a hotmail account, but better for my purposes. I liked being able to prevent "bad" and junk mail from getting to the students. While the students did have privacy sending messages, gaggle.net had an "invisible" monitor that would prevent foul language and/or illicit from being sent to or received from students in any of our classes. While I want the students to "experience" positives of the World Wide Web, we have to use a little judgment on how much and when at this age. If interested in the service, the web-site is www.gaggle.net. Feel free to contact me is I can help.
