This Week's Theme: Women's History Month
AOL@SCHOOL presents a view of history that shows the accomplishments of women. Primary students will find out about unusual women inventors, including movie star Hedy Lamarr, whose idea has become the basis for satellite communications today. At the Children's Encyclopedia of Women they can see a timeline of important dates in women's. Elementary students can celebrate the accomplishments of women around the world by joining Webster at the Women's History Math Hunt! At PBS, watch video clips about the lives and accomplishments of two women who, in seeking to win the ballot for American women revolutionized the political and social conditions of women in our society.
Middle School students will have access to the contributions of women writers throughout history along with biographical information. They can take a virtual tour of the National Museum of Women in the Arts to view the works of women artists of all periods and nationalities. High School students can read biographical essays about women in mathematics and their numerous achievements. They can then travel along on the westward journeys of Women Pioneers through journals, letters and diaries.
Teachers can gather a number of lesson plans and ideas for student projects to celebrate all month long at Women's History from Scholastic. Then they can have older students analyze gender equality in the past, present and future.
Administrators will survey a summary of the efforts to provide discounts on the costs of telecommunication services and equipment to all public and private schools and libraries at E-Rate and the Digital Divide. Then read the results of a university professor's review of middle school science textbooks and why he believes they are failing our students.
