computerdisc-l: computer security

Does anyone one use Fortres 101 for security? I am addicted to Central
Control of Fortres. That gives me the ability to control the students'
access to certain applications from my teacher's workstation during
class. (I can allow Netscape to function or not to function during
class. For instance, I can "turn Netscape on" for the last 5 minutes of
class, so students can check that Gaggle.net e-mail.) Next year, I was
informed that we would not be using Fortres. Does anybody have any
suggestions for me? I don't want to have to change security preferences
during the class 2 & 3 times at 26 machines during every class period.
I have to "circle" my "computer islands" enough as it is. By the way,
if you have a choice don't use the "island schematic" for CD classrooms,
it is most difficult for monitoring student use. I would like to have
had a classroom with the computers along the walls where I could see all
student monitors AT THE SAME TIME. I can't change now due to the
location of the electrical and networking outlets.

Sincerely,
Cassandra Shidler-Stevens
