TopCoder is a company committed to identifying and promoting top-notch computer programming talent through competition. Programmers who want to compete in the competition must register as a TopCoder member. The Sun and TopCoder Collegiate will bring together 512 of the highest-rated TopCoder college-level members for four rounds of online regional competition, starting Feb. 19, 2002. The field will then be narrowed to 16, who will compete in the final two rounds, April 19-20, 2002, at the University Park Hotel at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. TopCoder will host weekly online programming competitions throughout the year for both professional and collegiate developers to compete for national ranking and rewards. For more information about the competition, visit http://www.topcoder.com or call (866) 867-2633. ---- Buzz Aldrin to be Featured Speaker at Space Conference Apollo II astronaut and the second man to land on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, is planning to be a featured speaker during the Space in the Classroom (SITC) conference, a national educational conference hosted by the Space Foundation and sponsored by the California Space Authority. SITC, which takes place on Feb. 1-2, 2002 in Sacramento, Calif., is a hands-on conference for K-12 educators, which explores teaching with space and offers optional graduate credit. Dr. Aldrin will participate on the "Industry" panel on the first day of the conference, discussing the importance of space in the curriculum. Aldrin is currently the president of Starcraft Enterprises in Laguna Beach, Calif., and lectures worldwide on America's future in space. Students must be enrolled or accepted at an accredited institution in the United States or in Canada. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1, 2002.
