The guidelines draw upon the advice of more than 2,000 educators, policymakers and industry representatives. The report lists six standards, each corresponding to a set of performance indicators for all school administrators. The six standards are leadership and vision; learning and teaching; productivity and professional practice; support, management and operations; assessment and evaluation; and social, legal and ethical issues. The educational curriculum is available at http://www.arts.state.tx.us/info/quarter/lessons.asp. Curriculum units include 16 lessons for grades K-12 that align with Texas' state standards in social studies, fine arts, mathematics and science. Students entering the art contest are encouraged to explore design possibilities through two- and three-dimensional artwork inspired by the U.S. Mint's Fifty State Commemorative Coin Program. One design from each grade level will be selected and minted in plastic - to be awarded as a commemorative coin to all participating artists. Entries must be postmarked by Dec. 14, and may be sent to TCA Education Administrator Deborah Dobbins, 1501 Circle Dr., Ste. 270, Fort Worth, TX, 76119. Participants are also encouraged to submit their entry and application form with a parent or guardian signature to the Texas Numismatic Association, the organization responsible for the statewide design contest on behalf of Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Quarter Dollar Coin Design Advisory Committee. For more information about the design contest, visit http://www.ccatech.com/tna/whats_new/articles/state_quarters.html. ---- Electronic Book-Buying Made Easier Follett, an operator of campus bookstores, and Campus Pipeline plan to work together to streamline back-to-school tasks for both students and faculty, providing a batter customer experience and helping campuses increase bookstore revenue. A pilot program is planned to demonstrate how the partnership can make it easier to purchase books online, help bookstores more accurately forecast textbook demand and improve the process of textbook adoption by professors, thus ensuring the books are available in the bookstore when the students need them. For more information about Campus Pipeline, visit http://www.campuspipeline.com. -------------------------------- Web Notes -------------------------------- http://www.wiredscholar.com An independent branch of Sallie Mae, this site contains information and interactive tools to assist students, parents and guidance professionals with college preparation, evaluation, selection, application and financing.
