Talbots Offers $100,000 in Scholarships

Talbots, the high-end womens' clothing store, is offering $100,000 in
scholarships to women seeking bachelor's or associate's degrees later in
life through its Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund. Now in its fifth year,
the program awards five $10,000 scholarships and 50 $1,000 scholarships to
women ranging in age from their mid-20s to early 60s. This year's board of
judges will include Blythe Danner, Tony Award-winning actress and
environmentalist; Caroline Kennedy, attorney and best-selling author; Marlee
Matlin, Academy Award-winning actress; Joyce Carol Oates, acclaimed writer
and National Book Award winner; and Deborah Roberts, award-winning
correspondent for ABC News and 20/20. Applications must be postmarked no
later than March 4, 2002, and are available through the company's Web site
( http://www.talbots.com/about/scholar/scholar.asp ) and in all U.S. Talbots
stores.

EBSCO Databases Available to West Virginia Libraries, Patrons

The West Virginia Library Commission recently selected several databases to
be available through EBSCOhost, allowing the state's public libraries and
patrons to view thousands of full-text magazines, journals and other
valuable resources. The databases cover several subjects, including general
reference, business, education, science, multicultural issues, health and
more. Each public library in the state and its patrons will gain 24-hour
access to the selected EBSCO databases via remote Web access to anyone
affiliated with the libraries. For more information about the West Virginia

Grants Recognize Victims of Terrorist Attacks

In response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and
Washington, D.C., the Jack Cooke Foundation is dedicating $1 million to a
new grant called the Bridge to Tomorrow Grant Program. The program will
provide educational assistance to those directly affected by the attacks on
the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of United Airlines flight
93 in Pennsylvania. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served
basis and will continue to be awarded until all funds have been distributed.

virtual reference network called the Collaborative Digital Reference Service
(CDRS). CDRS provides professional reference services and access to global
resources for researchers anytime, anywhere through an international digital
network of libraries and related institutions.

This site contains an area that aims to encourage kids to become inventors
through e-learning curricula designed to teach vocabulary, math and science.
The lessons also incorporate principles of entrepreneurship, capitalism,
market research and the U.S. patent process, among others. The site also

help coach kids on their innovative ideas.
