computerdisc-l: Shadow Day

Title: Shadow Day

Career, Computer, and Technology Discovery Teachers,

This is a great activity that would bring the members of the community into your school.  Last year, at my middle school, a variety of community members spent part of their day at the school.  They say the daily routine of teachers and student and the technology that we were using.  They were very impressed with the Discovery Courses.  They left with a greater appreciation of teachers and administrators.

A teacher at my school coordinated this so she could add the project to her National Board Certification portfolio.  This would be great for you to do if you are doing National Boards this year!

October is the Month of the Young Adolescent Middle Level Shadow Day.  All you have to do is invite local leaders to visit your school.  We invited the mayor, medical personnel, local business leaders, etc.  They would sit in on classes and watch teachers teach and students learn.  This is a great opportunity to showcase the outstanding events and programs that your school offers adolescents.   Invite your local newspaper so you can get publicity for the event (especially if you are doing this for National Boards) For more information, visit www.nmsa.org/moya/new2002/shadowday.htmlj or you can contact me.
