When I was teaching Computer Discovery, I took all of my student's work out of their notebooks, and I put all of it in a folder. We did that at the end of each 9 weeks. By doing it each 9-week period, I was able to keep only the documentation that I needed. I did not store all of the information that they completed, I only filed documents that showed that students meet each competency. That was easier to store in my classroom. I kept all of my old paper boxes and stored the folders in them, because I did not have filing cabinet room.
It is also my understanding that we only keep their folders for 1 full year, and we keep their competency sheets (with dates on them, not checkmarks) until the students graduate from high school.
I don't know about broken equipment.

Subject: computerdisc-l: Portfolios and broken computers
Are we supposed to keep the notebooks/portfolios of our students after we
teach them? If so, for how long? And how do you go about storing all of
those binders?
Also, how do you dispose of broken equipment? Is there a process or
paperwork that I should begin?
Thanks for any help.
