1.   The deadline for registration for the MDE's Summer Conference is May 8. The conference will be held June 5-7 at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. This year's conference theme is "TRAIN: Teachers-Rigor-   Administrators/Leaders-Involvement-Network of Support," which embraces the state's priority to provide a quality education for every child. CEU and SEMI credits will be offered. Register online at http://www.outreach.olemiss.edu/events/doe_conference/doe.html or http://www.mde.k12.ms.us/olpd/summer/index.html. 2.   Summer registration began April 24 and will continue through May 24 for the Mississippi Virtual School (MVS)'s tuition-free summer online courses for students in grades 9-12. Students are expected to begin coursework June 5. Visit http://www.mvs.mde.k12.ms.us to find out more about available courses and to download a registration form for summer school. 3.   The remarkable growth of the catfish industry in Mississippi is the April feature for Mississippi History Now. To read the history of catfish farming in Mississippi go to Mississippi History Now at http://mshistory.k12.ms.us. Teachers will find a link to a lesson plan on the catfish industry at the end of the article. 

4.   The Lexmark PrintArt program has been working with State Representative Jim Barnett to bring Lexmark PrintArt to every school in the state. Through the program, every school in every district will receive an art-quality resolution, color inkjet printer including hardware and cabling. Schools also receive an art CD-ROM featuring art from European museums and an accompanying teacher guide. For more information or to register for the program go to http://printart.lexmark.com/. 
 
5.   Scholarships for MDE's Summer Conference are available through the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE). The Conference entitled"TRAIN: Teachers-Rigor-Administrators/Leaders-Involvement-Network of Support" will be held June 5-7. Up to 85 applicants are eligible for a $50 registration scholarship when they agree to participate in the Arts Education Professional Development Track. Up to 10 teachers from the six coastal counties including Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Stone and George are eligible for $150 scholarships.
