The deadline for Dollar General's $5,000 Back-to-School grants is August 11. The grants are designed to assist schools in meeting some of the financial challenges they face in implementing new programs or purchasing new equipment, materials, or software for their school library or literacy program. The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries is currently accepting applications for assistance to schools affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Through a competitive grant process, the Foundation is offering funds to stock school libraries that were damaged by the hurricanes or new libraries in schools being rebuilt due to storm damage.
