fsfaculty: Special Research/Scholarship Fund

Colleagues,

Last year, at the urging of the Faculty Senate, the Office of
Research established a special Research/Scholarship Fund to provide
limited support (when needed, on short notice) for research/scholarship
projects for which departmental and college funds are not available.

This fund received $33,000 for the last four months of the 2000-01
academic year and $100,000 for this year from the portion of the
indirect cost recovery of the university that is returned to the Office
of Research.

The senate has recently noted that, although nearly all applications
were funded, the fund is not being used at capacity . Faculty members,
particularly those from departments without substantial travel or
research funds, are urged to apply.

Requests for up to $2000 may be submitted in support of
research/scholarship projects.

Requests should be succinct statements of the aims of the project
and the amount of the request, with appropriate documentation.
Applications must have endorsements from the applicant’s department head
and dean, giving their brief evaluations of the project and showing what
contributions they have been able to make to it.
