Faculty Colleagues: I am soliciting nominations for the Search Committee for the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The General Faculty will elect 6 members, and the President will appoint 5 members of the committee. Two faculty representatives will be elected in each one of the following three sets of academic units, which collectively have similar numbers of faculty: Set 1: College of Arts & Sciences, School of Architecture, Library Set 2: College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Forest Resources, College of Veterinary Medicine Set 3: Bagley College of Engineering, College of Business and Industry, College of Education Nominations will taken from the faculty at large by e-mail (deadline: 12:00noon, Thursday, Feb. 13). Please submit your nominations to Delores Hudson dhudson@senate.msstate.edu. You may nominate yourself and/or faculty in any of these sets (not just the one containing your own unit). Please check with the individuals you plan to nominate to assure that they are willing to serve and are willing to put in the effort necessary to hire a new Provost in a timely manner, including a committment to working over the summer if necessary. Only senate-eligible members of the General Faculty (below the rank of Assistant Dean or equivalent ) are eligible to be elected. The General Faculty will vote for 2 individuals in each set by e-mail (deadline: 12:00noon, Tuesday, Feb. 18). The elections will be conducted by Ms. Delores Hudson in the faculty senate office to ensure that they are conducted in a timely fashion. In case there is no majority, run-offs will follow with a short turn-around time. The first meeting of the search committee is scheduled to occur on Feb. 24 or 25, 2003. Thank you for your help in this very important matter. Walter Diehl President, Robert Holland Faculty Senate Mississippi State University
