It is very seldom that I hear someone speak that touches me like Jim
Rohn did in his video entitled "The Making of a Leader". It is true that
he stepped on my toes several times, just like Dr. Anderson said it did
with him. Rohn spoke of the the pain of discipline and the pain of
regret. I have had a problem in the past with two of the three that he
mentioned, which are pessimism and procrastination. I have improved
greatly over the years, but I have to be reminded at times that I should
not do these things. I believe that it is good for us to get our toes
stepped on when they need to be stepped on. If unnecessary behaviors are
never corrected or rebuked, the unwanted behavior will never change.
One of the places in the video that I see technology planning in is
with one of Rohn's one liners which states, "The highest of maturity is
no complaint and full responsibility." Thoroughout my short teaching
experience I have heard teachers, administrators, parents, students, and
members of the community complain about the technology in their schools.
If they would do that Rohn says and start acting rather than complaining,
the technology plan in their community will improve. All they have to do
is work together and turn their complaining into action. They should not
be pessismists by thinking that nothing can be done about the problem.
They also should not be procrastinators by putting off placing their ideas
into action. They should take advantage of the opportunity to better their
community, and they should stand guard over their values and successes and
not let anyone tell them that they cannot do it.
