FableVision Lands Double-Win for Both Peter Reynolds’ The Blue Shoe and Living Forever Animated Films
WATERTOWN, MA. -- FableVision Studios, the Boston-based media company dedicated to crafting “stories that matter, stories that move for children and grown ups,” continues its winning streak in animation and film festivals around the globe. Most recently, two of FableVision’s short animated films, The Blue Shoe and Living Forever, both by nationally-acclaimed author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds, were winners at the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival. Joining the company of "the godfather” of animated festival shorts Bill Plympton, who took first place for The Intelligent Life of a Tree, FableVision's The Blue Shoe took second place and Living Forever took third place in ASIFA-East's Independent Films category. The honors continue to position FableVision as a national resource for its unique character design, emphasis on original storytelling and state-of-the-art animation process.
ASIFA-East, based in New York City, is the Eastern U.S. chapter of ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d'Animation) and conducts the only annual animation festival held in the U.S., a showcase for the most interesting independent and commercial animation being produced today. ASIFA was formed in 1960 by an international group of animators to coordinate, further the interests, and increase world-wide visibility of the animated film. ASIFA's membership includes animation professionals and fans from more than 50 countries and sponsors animation festivals in Annecy, Ottowa and Hiroshima.
The Blue Shoe, directed by Peter Reynolds and Gary Goldberger, is a love story between a blue shoe and a green boot. A grass roots favorite, the film has already secured world-wide film and television distribution with Link Television Entertainment including a two-year theatrical run with Spike & Mike's 1999 Classic Festival of Animation. The Blue Shoe has also been honored nationally and internationally at The World Animation Celebration, the Museum of Television & Radio's 7th International Children's Television Festival in NY & L.A., the Santa Clarita International Film Festival, the Telly Awards, as well as the Annecy Film Festival, and Brussels Festival of Cartoons & Animated Films.
FableVision’s most recent short, Living Forever, is the story about a young boy who seeks the artist who has inspired him in order to deliver a gift that will allow his mentor to "live forever." The film, directed by Reynolds and Goldberger with lead animation by Matt Ducharme, also recently won a place in Chicago’s Silver Images Film Festival before the film was even completed.
Studio founder and Creative Director Peter Reynolds’ career has been dedicated to artfully combining technology, media and storytelling. Peter heads FableVision Studios (www.fablevision.com) which produces quality books and programming for children and adults. Reynolds shares, “We are doing for animation what Jim Henson did for puppets -- leveraging great characters and solid storytelling.” FableVision has pioneered state-of-the-art, digital animation tools to make the process closer to “lower-tech” puppeteering. Reynolds adds, “Once you can make the technology transparent, you find the heart and soul of a story -- and it’s real storytelling that makes the difference.”
