tkt8763-01: Calgary Video

Calgary Video:
Alberta, Canada
Cindy Lee Martin and Jim Langley outline the steps in Technology
Planning that were used for their school district of 96,000 students.
Their opening statements include that Tech Planning is not a linear
process. Whenever I hear this it reminds me of a David Carridine "Kung
Fu" quote - "Man should go in 5 directions like a star, not one
direction like a car." Throughout my courses technology has drawn me in
several different directions at the same time. Like the hub of a wheel,
I find myself reaching out in various directions grabbing new info,
learning new skills, touching new people, improving hardware, bringing
together a new multifaceted package of information. Good technology
plans must embraces the same multifaceted bundle to be successful.

Calgary Steps:
· External Scan
A search for technology plans and trends
	Apple's Teach Technology Plan Kit
· Internal Scan or data collection - they read all published district
documents
To determine what is already in place
	District philosophy
	Surveys of classroom applications
	Survey of technology in classrooms
· Writing of Vision and Goals based on:
Stakeholder Group Feedback - 3 drafts
	School Improvement Process to include:
		Meaningful learning opportunities
		A plan for each school
		Staff access to technology
· Budget Proposals and presentations for 70 schools
· Review Process for accountability
