I really liked the way Jim Langley and Cindy Lee Martin of the Calgary Board
of Education described their process of developing a technology plans for
one of the largest school districts in Canada.
The process included 6 steps:
1. Understanding the external forces relevant to education.
Investigate other plans
Use Eric to search for journals with articles discussing planning
Apple's Teach Technology Plan
Using scanning documents that had been developed
2. Doing an Internal Scan
Accessing the school's capacity for change
Surveying the schools for technology in the classrooms
Then they wrote goals and visions and had parents, principals, and others
evaluate it
3. Developed visions and goals from the draft
made sure it included:
-meaningful opportunities for students
-required a plan for each school
-teachers will have access to technology
4. Set goals and action plans
5. Implementation of action plans
6. Reviewed the progress of the plan
They are now in the process of developing a budget for 70 schools and help
those schools develop technology plans.
I feel they are have done a well job of deciding what to do and are doing a
good job implementing their plans
