tkt8763-01: Calgary Board Presentation

Jim and Cindy tackled a big moose when undertaking technology planning
for a district of 96000 students and 600 teachers. I was impressed by
their statement that the superintendent started the technology planning
process. They discussed thorough investigation of external resources on
technology planning and then asked, "What have we already done?" With
all of that information, they had a reference point from which they
planned. They completed several working drafts that everyone evaluated.
After all that drafting, they began developing the purpose for the plan,
1) meaningful opportunities for learning, 2) a technology plan in every
school and 3) access for staff to the technology. From this platform,
the subsequent goals were developed. A committee was developed to
oversee the management of the process. Budget submission allowed for
implementation of action plans. Then comes the "project in itself" job
of evaluation. Jim and Cindy demonstrate the consistent and basic
principals of technology planning in a non presumptuous and accessible
tone.
