Well.... isn't technology wonderful! I am enrolled in the online portion
of this class. I feel as though I may be missing something by not being in
the classroom face-to-face with everyone. However, listening to the audio
call of Bob Hughes made me feel very much a part! I find it amazing to
have immediate access to your class time!
Bob Hughes was quite interesting! It was encouraging to hear that someone
from the corporate world had chosen to be so dedicated to education. He
seemed determined and sincere. I was impressed to hear of how Bob and
others doing educational research found positive aspects of education
instead of the negative!
Bob did discuss some problems that he viewed were affecting education.
First, he stated that kids are coming to school less prepared. Along with
that... kids are bringing "baggage" with them that are affecting other
students. I find that to be quite true. It seems to me that the morality
of the family has declined. This is quite evident in the lives of our
young people. Bob also mentioned that highschool or college students are
coming out of school unprepared to successfully teach our young people.
This is quite frustrating to me. I agree 100% with Bob in saying that we
need to establish some higher standards for those seeking educational
degrees. Students are put in the care of teachers for a large portion of
their day. These teachers should be skilled, knowledgeable, and prepared
in every way.
Bob Hughes seemed to be very passionate about education. His connection
from the corporate world to the educational world can only produce success
and progress. His views and findings seemed to focus on one basis... the
students. As educators, we should have the students as our number one
focus. I believe that Bob Hughes does. His talk was very interesting and
inspiring.
