The Concord Consortium is looking for eight outstanding teachers who could
help us develop technology-based enhancements to science curricula for
grades 4-8. The Concord Consortium, (http://www.concord.org) in
collaboration with the Hudson (MA) Public Schools, is writing a proposal to
the NSF to correct the surprising lack of computers, networking, and probes
in science curricula in these grades. We will develop exciting activities
that can be used with FOSS, Insights, STC and other curricula as well as
stand alone as an investigations-based curriculum. We are looking for a few
teachers who can help us in both writing the activities and testing them in
classrooms. We plan writing workshops in the summers of 2000 and 2001
followed by in-class testing during the academic year. The project will
provide stipends and specialized equipment and computers for testing that
will be donated to your school.

We are conducting a national search for eight highly qualified teachers who
will be featured in our proposal. Selection for inclusion in the proposal
is not binding on us or on you, since conditions may change. However, if
you are included in a fully funded proposal and you are able to
participate, it is our intention to involve you in the project.

Necessary qualifications:

? Outstanding science teaching experience in one or more grades 4-8.
? Experience with the use of educational technology, particularly probes.
? Experience in developing science curricula.
? Administrative support to test units developed by the project in your
grade 4-8 class and at least one other class in this grade range.
? Two or more computers in all test classrooms, preferably on the
Internet.

Some, but only about half, of the classrooms we use need to use FOSS,
Insights, STC, or other outstanding science curricula. We also need our
developer/testers to represent the range of educational settings typical of
American education. Finally, half of the teachers need to be in the greater
Boston area so we can visit during the year. Some otherwise well-qualified
teachers might not be selected in order that the group as a whole has the
right mix of science curricula, grade levels, location, and student
backgrounds.

If you are interested in getting in on the ground floor of this exciting
project, please send a letter and two-page resume to cynthia@concord.org by
August 7. In your letter, please describe your qualifications, your school
and the socio-economic characteristics of its students, and the science
curricula you use. Also, please tell us where you teach, what grade, and
how we can contact you quickly. We would prefer your letter to be sent by
email but, if necessary, fax it to 978-371-0696.

Please send us an email immediately, telling us that your are interested so
we can gauge whether our appeal is reaching candidates. Complete your
response by August 7th; later applications cannot be considered.
