September 8, 1999 -- Helping students learn to learn has never been more challenging. As teacher time shrinks, information expands, and the world becomes more complex, teaching critical thinking and learning skills becomes increasingly important. Students need the best tools available to develop their organizational skills, deepen their understanding of concepts, and broaden their thinking to encompass an ever changing and expanding world.
The use of visual learning techniques in the classroom - concept mapping, webbing, brainstorming, and more - has been shown to help students tap visual modes of learning and increase critical thinking and learning skills.
Teachers play a vital role in helping students develop these skills. In order to support educators in their on-going professional development, and to champion visual learning and the integration of technology into the classroom, Inspiration Software, Inc. is pleased to award ten Inspired Teacher Scholarships for Visual Learning. Ten teachers who actively promote and support visual learning and the meaningful integration of technology into the classroom will receive a $500 stipend. These funds may be used to offset the costs associated with attendance at a training session or conference.
"The scholarship drew incredible response last year and we are pleased to continue the program a second year," said company president Mona Westhaver. "Educators simultaneously face incredible pressure to use technology in the classroom and limited professional development time and resources. By awarding scholarships for technology training and conference attendance, we hope to help equip teachers with the best technology tools for teaching critical thinking and learning skills."
