After reading the article, "Massachusetts Leads High Tech State;
Mississippi Trails," I have one thing to say: When you are on the bottom,
there is only one way left to go--UP. I feel that is what Mississippi is
doing right now with programs like tech prep. I guess the article is
pretty accurate, but I can't say that I am upset or even surprised. What
does Mississippi usually rank? Don't get me wrong, I love Mississippi, but
sometimes I think that these studies assume that just because we are
Mississippi we belong on the bottom.
What can we do about this? I think we are taking steps every day to
improve our state in the field of technology. Teachers are coming back to
school to update their skills so they can be more helpful to their
students. New computers and other technologies are implemented every day
in classrooms across the state. No doubt, there are more things that need
to be done, but I think that studies like this will be a starting point
for Mississippians to know where to go in the future.
