Better late than never.
Do I feel this report is true?
I suppose I do; however, I would love for it not to be. I find the most
credence in the final point of the author which was that 17 of the bottom 20
states all have economies firmly entrenched in agriculture and nontechnical
enterprises. However, this does not account for the larger agriculture
entities located in these states, many of whom rely upon technology. I think
this mainly accounts for the small "mom and pop" operations that still rely
on friends, word of mouth, etc. I think these businesses are less likely to
see the real advantages to using technology. I also feel it is probably
more common to find these types of operations is the Midwest, Plains, and
especially the South.
I think the challenge is to show our future generations the far reaching
possibilities of technology. We all know how hard it is to teach an old dog
new tricks, so let's work on the puppies. I think from this study we can
learn there is room for improvement and we should try to do better.
Specifically, we need to expose all of our children to the joys and
possibilities of technology.
