Dear class --
I don't do as well as chris with the class notes but i am going to try.
Here I go ....
We started off with quicktime videos -- Dr. A was promoting the new iMac
computer. These were quite interesting. We also watch other quicktime
videos of a fudrucker's commerical, garth brooks' new identity, Hawaii
(under the sea -- this one was cool!), and other demonstrations.
We then discussed evaluation process in terms of technology planning. Dr.
A gave us a scenrio of being asked to help Clinton SD with their
technology planning. He then asked what we thought about whether a
company can evaluate itself or not accurately. Most of the class said
because of its validity (or objectiveness). Dr. A said that technology
evaluation criteria is quantative and qualitative but it is mostly
qualitative which makes it harder to evaluate because you don't have any
guidelines to go by just opinions.
Dr. A also states that it is good to evaluate yourself or your entity.
But you also need an outside person (not a friend) to evaluate you also or
evaluate your evaluation.
Things you need to have for an evaluation:
-- Background information (ask: students, parents, administration, staff,
custodians, etc.)
-- What questions do you ask certain people or various groups; who do you
ask those questions???!!! Maybe even ask people (teachers;
administrators) to reflect upon experiences that have had
-- How frequently do you need to evaluate? (evaluation should never
stop; continues constantly; Although, there is clarification. You may
assess constantly but an evaluation may happen when you reach benchmarks
or goals in your technology plan)
-- What do you evaluate?
-- Evaluate the process ex.- Variety of participation (involve
all persons effective)
-- Evaluate the plan and output - easy to read, organization,
etc., including its mission and vision statement; AIMS,
GOALS should be parallel with teachers; Teachers need to
be able to implement the plan into their classroom
We then talked about comps; then Dr. A told us we should find information
about the digital-divide. He instructed us to look at the Benton
Organization website - www.benton.org. Then look at their newsletter --
www.benton.org/DigitalBeat.
CTCNet - Community Technology Centers' Network -- non-profit organization
-- www.ctcnet.org.
Falling through the Net - Department of Commerce report -- Useful in
technology planning -- http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/digitaldivide/
NTIA - National Telecommunications and Information Administration -
www.ntia.doc.gov and TIIAP - Telecommunications and Information
Infrastructure Assistance Program --

Keep analyzing the Guidebook - develop questions about information
contained in the Guidebook.
so -- i hope this gives you some invision about what went on in class
tonight. see ya next week --
