Hi all,

Who all have found, bought, borrowed tapes, books, cassettes, etc to listen
to or read regarding Seminar in Planning? The MSU library is a great
resource for all this material. Some of our online students can go to their
local libraries and find some interesting things. Unfortunately, only MSU
faculty or staff is able to check out some of the tapes and cassettes.
However, you're local library may have different rules. We will not discuss
the double standard here but accept it exists and know that we would never
make policies which correspond to these policies.

Check out the following neat website: http://www.how2hq.com/

Has anybody read
*"Saber Tooth Curriculum" see
http://aral.cse.msu.edu/CPS101US99/CSE101Visitor/saber.htm
"The Padeiea Proposal"
*"A Nation at Risk" see http://cgi.aros.net/~bernhj/Risk.htm
"Silicon Snake Oil"
*"School's Out" see http://www.his.com/~pshapiro/schools.out.html

Don't just read these hyperlinks, they are just some critique I found real
 quick.

You all need to see the video "Goals" by Zig Ziglar.

I found some neat things at this site:
http://www.lifeandsuccess.com/downloads.htm to download some screen savers.

Some neat quotes are at: http://www.bugimus.com/views/cqqt/cqqt.html

"The Dynamics of Effective Listening" is a good tape set that we all should
listen too.

Good website for educators http://www.edsoasis.org/.

We then talked about Visions and Revisions. It is a pamphlet for creating a
technology plan. Students a couple of semesters ago created it. The
pamphlet is broken up into planning, observations, and adjustment within
each specific area within the guidebook for technology planning. What it
does specifically is have different areas of interest within different
considerations. It is an interesting document that details a fictitious
schools district plan. The plan is in the planning portion. Then
observations are made of the plan. Finally, adjustments to the plan were
made. Basically the pamphlet goes through creating a technology plan by
creating a fictitious plan making observations, and evaluating it.
I know I have not done the book justice. Let me try again. The heart of the
book is a fictitious technology plan. The students then make observations
about this technology plan, finally they make adjustments to the technology
plan to make it a more complete plan. The book essentially maps out the
process of creating a technology plan.

We finished by talking about the purpose of SIP class. It is discovery
learning. The whole purpose is to put people out of their comfort zone and
make them learn. As we get closer and closer to a PhD, we will begin to
realize that all the answers are not out there. We will begin creating the
answers. Take a technology audit (or evaluation model, which I believe is
the same thing) for example. There is not a good/recognized audit out
there. We may need to create one. Maybe that is our task. It has not been
done yet. We will realize that we are at a level that ideas we come up with
are just a good as idea that others come up with. Do not be bashful. We are
at a level to where we will discover the answer. My answer is not better
than your answer nor is yours better than mine. We collectively have a lot
of good to offer to any question and collectively will undoubtedly come up
with the right answer.

This is definitely my feeble attempt at typing the jest of our conversation
tonight.
