I understand where you are coming from, believe me. I agree with you
about the inspirational software! Being an online student was more
difficult than I thought it was going to be. I guess that comes from
being the type of person that needs a lot of human contact.
I am a firm believer in the use of technology and how it can change lives
for the better, but there is still nothing better than seeing someone
face-to-face: Feel the momentum!!! I guess we are truly sharpening our
saw.
I just attended the National School Public Relations Conference and I
thought I would share with you some things I learned this week. There
were over 5000 different school districts from across the U.S. in
attendance, school board members, PR practitioners, superintendents,
teachers, principals, etc. The most interesting things I learned dealt
with technology. School districts are no longer sending newsletters or
holding PTA meetings. Everything is being done via Internet or email.
I met three people who have school districts similar to Tupelo where
principals are sending student information, grades, progress reports,
updates to parents through email. Parent conferences are being held
over the T1 lines. I also realized that Mississippi is far ahead of many
states when it comes to technology. I also learned that a school district
in Texas pays less than Mississippi. Did you hear that? They pay
teachers lower than what the Tupelo School District pays!!!
I went to session of technology and the presentation was done with old
fashioned slides. The one thing that was stressed in every session
(whether it was on technology or PR) was planning. Proper planning is the
key to success! Dr. A you are always right on the money.
Also, did anyone find a school technology plan that Dr. A had not helped
with? He is a celebrity!
