STARKVILLE, Miss.— Mississippi State University is expanding to two fall and three spring commencement ceremonies.

“As our commencement ceremonies have reached capacity and knowing participation in the ceremonies will continue to increase, the Commencement Committee, after exploring several options, recommended to the provost and president that the university expand its ceremonies,” said John Dickerson, MSU assistant vice president for enrollment.

Taking place 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at Humphrey Coliseum, the first of two fall 2017 commencement ceremonies will feature graduates of the College of Architecture, Art and Design; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Education, and General Studies. Processional starts at 9 a.m.

Also on Friday the 8th, a 4 p.m. commencement ceremony will be held for fall graduates of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its School of Human Sciences; College of Business and its Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy; James Worth Bagley College of Engineering and its Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering; and College of Forest Resources. Master’s and doctoral graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine also will be recognized. Processional starts at 3:30 p.m. For more, visit www.registrar.msstate.edu/students/graduation.

Graduates and guests are encouraged to review traffic and parking instructions for commencement at www.parkingservices.msstate.edu.  In addition, security measures will be in place and all bags are subject to search at Humphrey Coliseum.

Dickerson said the spring 2018 final exam schedule will include Saturday [April 28] to accommodate a third commencement ceremony. University officials will develop the exam schedule to minimize the number of exams on that day and will build the 2019 calendar to accommodate the increased number of commencement ceremonies, he added.
