It is not easy to make a decision to the housing for someone else, especially for a single person because normally the apartment is two bedrooms and deposit and 6-month lease are required. It is a lot of money. It will be a big trouble if you are not satisfied with the apartment.
But we have some suggestion for you,
-contact another new comer to share the rent fee.
-send email to see if someone here is willing to share with you.
-Information from some senior students you know well.
Aiken village is an ideal campus house for marriage graduate student. You are qualified if your spouse will come with you. For the single, you have to wait for a long time in the waiting list after you come here. Normally new Chinese students will live in Chadwick, 15-min walk time to campus. The bedroom is big so that 2-3 people can share one apartment. It will cut down the rent $500-$600/month.
About air ticket, flight to GTR airport is the best option, which is only 15min away from MSU by car. Check with the agency which has delta airline. if the ticket is not available or too expensive, Memphis is the second choose, as well as Jackson and Birmingham. There are much more airlines in those 3 airports but about 3hours away from MSU.
