Welcome to the MSU AIChE site!

Welcome back to campus!  We are eagerly anticipating a number of great events this upcoming year.  Continuing our great tradition, we are planning a variety of things from tailgate parties to community outreach. Some of our plans include

  • Regular corporate-sponsored AIChE meetings (this promises to be another great year for permanent and co-op jobs
  • Home football tailgates (a great time to meet alumni and network with other ChEs)
  • Community service projects (examples include past work with Habitat for Humanity, the Palmer Children’s Home and local elementary schools)
  • Fundraising cookouts
  • AIChE golf tournament (moved to the fall semester)
  • Regional and National AIChE student conferences

For just $25 (local/national dues) per year, you get all these great opportunities to build your skills, develop friendships and, of course, strengthen your resume.

First of all, thanks very much to Dow Chemical and CITGO for sponsoring AIChE meetings. We appreciate industry support. The links page has been updated a bit. Let me know if there are other links you think should be included in the list that may help fellow ChE students. The calendar is also up to date. Send me events to post as you determine the dates.

We have three meetings coming up. The dates are September 14th, 19th, and 20th. The back to back meetings are because many companies will be on campus for career day. Be sure to come support AIChE while these companies come to make presentations. On September 24th instead of our usual tailgate before the home game we will be participating in Engineering Day. Basically all the engineering majors will have a booth set up to give information to persons interested in engineering. A banner needs to be made for this event, so if you would like to help contact Kathleen Ash.

Hey everyone. I am trying to get some work done on the site here, but there is a lot to do. I have many pictures from Kellie Smith and all the pictures from the date auction to upload. Basically what will be required is another night like tonight where I am bored and looking for something to do. I will try to get them up tomorrow. A few of the pages are already slightly updated. Let me know if you see errors on the updated pages.

Well a good time was had by all who showed up for Friday's E-lympics. The formal on Saturday was also a good event despite MSU's loss to Kentucky. ChE won second place in EWeek 2005. Yeah, I agree with you. The judging obviously went wrong somewhere, but there is always next year. Other awards ChE won were "Most Spirited Cheering Section" and "Best Decorated Bed" for the Bedlam. This AIChE site won second place for student organization webpages. Pictures of Friday's events are in the gallery.

Tuesday ChE lost the big lead from Monday, but we still had fun. Emily Dixon and Josh Moore competed for ChE and finished in fourth place. The photo scavenger hunt went well, but the winner will not be announced until the formal on Saturday. On Wednesday ESC cooked out and ChE took third for the participation points awarded. The Bedlam was a lot of fun. Congratulations to the team of builders who made our bed very creative and colorful. ASE was the only other competitor in the competition. They didn't work very hard on their bed, but their wheels did turn. ChE took second place in the Bedlam. Pictures are in the gallery.

ChE has started EWeek off with two first place wins! Chris Messemore and Aaron Smith won the Egg Drop Design competition earlier today. Dubbing their creation the "Re Re Copter", the team successfully dropped their egg from a height of 10 feet. Aaron credits the victory to the parachute feature of the design. Hunter Lightsey was duct taped to the ChE board later in the day. I have been told he eventually had to be cut down. Clearly we won. Pictures are in the gallery.

First of all, props are due to the former webmaster Stephen Marbut. He originally designed this site and did a wonderful job, so the basic design will hold for now. The new webmaster will be Kyle Timblin, AIChE secretary. Please e-mail me any suggestions, corrections, opinions, or content you may think of. I will do my best to keep this site up to date. The more you participate in our AIChE chapter, the more I will have to put here. If you don't belong to AIChE, go to the next meeting and start getting involved!
EWeek starts February 14th! Lots of participation is needed, and lots of fun will be had. Don't make the pictures you see here next week be the only experience you had with E-Week 2005. ChemE WILL win again, so be a participating member of the best major on campus! One great way to support ChE all week is to help out with Quarter Wars. Donate as many quaters as possible to the jar in Swalm's office. All other denominations of money are worth negative points, so if you have lots of pennies or a twenty burning a hole in your pocket, drop those off in another major's jar.
A chapter meeting will be held on Tuesday February 15th at 5 p.m. in the Swalm building's Eastman Auditorium. Melody Dubard will be speaking about co-op opportunities. Food will be served after the meeting.
MSU will be hosting the Southern Regional Conference in 2006. Lauren Michaelson and Katie Schroeder are heading the planning committee and need help from you. Younger members, this is a wonderful way to get involved in what will be a very important event for MSU AIChE. Older members, there is almost no chance you won't be conned into doing something for this before next year, so start helping now. A committee meeting time will be announced in the very near future.
