I am a student currently attending Broward Community College here in South Florida. Since there are hardly any Bangladeshi students here, I thought maybe I should just drop by and see what's going on with the community here in the states.

Salaam Walakum, It's Saquib again just thought I would mention this time around that I am also half Pakistani. I have noticed a little bit of animosity between the ignorant Bangladeshis and the ignorant Pakistanis who want to draw a line between these two communities. It is sad in this day and age, we should learn to see our similarities instead of our differences. Racism is something that Allah truly despises. Inshallah one day these two beautiful cultures will co-exist happily. We should learn from our past and respect it, we should not let it bear us down. I am so saddened and in-tears to hear about Neon's untime tragic death on July 3. I am still in a state of shock. This is like a nightmare and I wish it was a bad dream. I knew Neon for more than six years at Mississippi State. Anyone who came to know him, knew that he was everything any friend can ask for from a fellow friend - friendly, social, helpful, smart and versatile. I can write pages after pages about my friendship and association with Neon.... So, my request to friends and fellow countrymen who came to know Neon thru internet or any other means, please take a moment and recite whatever u can from the Holy Quarn and perform at least 2 rakaa't namaz (salat) for his departed soul. I pray to Allah that He grant Neon Jannah (Amen). Also, please sign this homepage as symbol of our condolence for Neon and again, please pray for him. My deepest sympathy to Farzana and to Neon's family. May Allah give u all strengths to handle this tragic tragic loss. I wish I were in Starkville.... Azam

When I first went to Mississippi State Campus, I was delighted to see Azam vai and Neon there. We used to cook together.. Then there was this car that I bought which I did not know how to drive.. Me and shadhin use to push it while Neon used to come up with the idea of cranking it in motion.. we learnt all the bengali techniques of patching the leaks of the exhaust pipe with mere chewing gum.. Standing in front of the Sack & Save having Ice-cream party 4 O clock in the morning and being stuck on the slope only to find out that we have to start on the opposite direction.. Everytime I use to see neon from far in the campus, my heart use to echo "cigerrette".. Neon is one character who alaways used to come forward to help people as Azam mentioned. Now I feel this big vacuum inside me dunno how long it will last../

I heard about the untimely death of the creator of this page Mr. Ruhul Hossain. I express my sincere condolence to Mrs. Farzana. May Allah allow a garden in His heaven for the deceased. Amin. Mahmood Hassan

Neon, I heard today, you're no longer with us and I still can't belive it. I don't know what happened, and I don't want to know. Words can't express the pain and sorrow I am feeling inside me this moment. - Gullu

Writing on this page is, in a sad way, like talking to Neon. Following is a copy of a posting that I wrote to a number of news groups. It gives a summary of what transpired: This is a follow-up of the message that I posted on the net last week regarding the untimely and tragic death of a graduate student (Biomed. Eng) of MSU. Mr. Mohammad Ruhul Hossain (Neon) was originally from Bangladesh (BD) and was an active member of the BD Association at MSU. He was killed in a road accident on Thursday (July 3, 1997). On behalf of the family, the wife and faculty/students at MSU, we take this opportunity to thank all the well wishers and friends who helped "at the time of need." One such person was Dr. Md. Sharif (Assoc Prof - Engineering, Univ. Alabama, Tuscaloosa) who helped rise money and organized "Ga-ebi Janaza" at Tuscaloosa, Huntsville and Birmingham, AL. The community at Jackson, MS (Kazi Islam alias Togor in particular), at Greenwood, MS (Dr. Farhad - MSU alumni, in particular), at Cleveland, MS (Mr. Sobhan in particular) and many others, "rose to the occasion" at this sad time. Mr. Mustafiz of Clinton, MS (Jackson, MS) went to the funeral home at Pearl, MS, where the dead body was embalmed and kept till shipment, to "wash" and "wrap" it in "kafan" (11 yds of plain white cotton sheet), the only earthly belonging that muslims take to their grave. Among the MSU faculty and staff, Dr. Gene Tice (VP), Dr. Gerry Gilbert (Prof and Head, Ag. Eng.), Mike White (Dean Student affairs), Stephen Cottrel (Adv. Foreign Students) and many others, were of immediate help. We particularly acknowledge the keen sense of responsibility that Dr. Tice displayed. He was in constant touch with me and the family thoughout the difficult time and particularly during the 4th of July weekend when everyone was out of town. MSU held an official memorial service on Friday (July 10, '97) where the President, relevant faculty and administrators spoke. Neon's father-in-law was also present and spoke a few words. A tree will soon be planted in Neon's name and a plaque will be issued to the family in rememberance of the deceased. We also thank the many well wishers who faxed or e-mailed their condolences. The body was send back to BD yesterday (July 12) by BIMAN (BG011) to reach DAC at about 5:30am on July 14, 1996 (Monday). Feel free to contact me for details. Neon (Md. Ruhul Hossain) will be buried in his family graveyard in Rajshahi Dist. In my many years as a human and a teacher, I have yet to come across another who is as humane and gentle as he was. Will you please accept my appology, NEON, for not visiting YOUR page earlier? After I left MSU in DEC 91, I talked to You, Salim, Azam, Mostaq , Kabir bhai, DR. Haque in several occassions. Then a big pause..... Today, after several years, I accidentally bumped into this page. The only face I could recognize in the photo was yours.. The same smiling face, with so full of life. While going thru the page, first of all nostalgia arrested me for a littile while, th en I started looking thru the guest book to see if I could find any info about the people once I knew. and there is the SHOCK, A THUNDER from out of the blue....
