The Famous Maroon Band at Mississippi State University has one of the oldest
traditions in the Southeast and has been a part of the Mississippi State family
for over a century. Ensembles within the band program have achieved national
and international acclaim through their many performances over the years.
Who can imagine a football or basketball game without “Hail State”
being played by the Famous Maroon Band?
The membership of the band program annually represents almost every college
and school on the university campus and is comprised of some of the finest
students on the MSU campus. Thirty to forty percent of the student members
are engineering majors, and over forty percent of the entering students in
the band consistently score higher than 27 on the ACT.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, the bands enjoy a $4.2 million "state-of-the-art" rehearsal hall and practice field. The Band and Choral Rehearsal Hall has over 16,000 square feet and accommodates the entire band program and choral program. Features include three large rehearsal rooms, an office complex including offices for faculty and staff and a reception area, individual practice rooms, student lockers, uniform and instrument storage, two large work rooms, a separate band and choral library, and a conference room.

Attention FMB Veterans
We wish to issue as many uniforms as possible to returning members before camp begins to insure that all members will have a good fit. We will begin issuing uniforms to veterans on Monday, July 13. This will continue every afternoon (Monday-Friday) from 1:30-4:00 through Friday, July 31. If you are in or around Starkville, please make plans to drop by the band hall and be fitted for a uniform. This will expedite the check-in for new members and insure you get a well-fitted uniform. If you are not able to come we will fit you during camp as usual.
