FMB Audition Information
Welcome to our Audition webpage! Here, you will find answers to most questions about auditioning for any part of the Famous Maroon Band Program.

Scholarship Audition Dates / Information
Contact the Band Office at 662-325-2713 to schedule your audition.
- January 26, 2008 (for students attending the MSU Honor Band Clinic)

February 16, 2008 (also the preferred audition date for students majoring in music or music education)
- March 15, 2008
- Other audition times and dates are available during the week by appointment.
2008 Drum Major Selection Process
Auditions for the Famous Maroon Band Drum Major(s) will consist of two rounds.
- The first round will be Tuesday, April 8, in the Band Hall at 6:30 p.m. After the first round, a cut will be made. 1i>
- Finalists will participate in individual tryouts by appointment during the week of April 21-25.
Those considering participating in auditions are encouraged to attend an interest meeting on Tuesday, March 25, in the Band Hall at 6:00 p.m. If attendance at this meeting is not possible, you should notify the band staff of your intentions by calling the band office at 662-325-2713.

2008 Drum Major Auditions
Brass & Woodwind Scholarship Audition Requirements
- 5 major scales (Student’s choice. 2 octaves where appropriate.)
- A chromatic scale
- A 1-2 minute prepared piece that demonstrates your best qualities as a musician
- Sight reading
Percussion Scholarship Audition Requirements
Percussionists are encouraged to audition on multiple instruments, but this is not required.
- Snare Drum
- 5 rudiments (Student’s choice. Open-Closed-Open)
- Long Roll
- A 1-2 minute prepared piece (on concert or marching snare) that demonstrates your best qualities as a musician
- Sight reading
- Mallet Percussion
- Same as Brass & Woodwind requirements
- Timpani
Drumline Audition Requirements
- April 19, 2008: Audition Clinic #1 (attendance strongly encouraged)
- May 3, 2008: Final Drumline Audition (attendance required)

Auxiliary Auditions
Auditions for Flag (colorguard), Feature Twirler and Bully’s Belles Dance Team will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 on the MSU Campus. All auditions will be held at the Joe Frank Sanderson Center, and a $20 non-refundable fee will be collected on the day of the audition. For a detailed map of the MSU campus, visit
this site. Students are encouraged to arrive early to the auditions.
Students must be admitted to MSU at the time of the audition. Visit the
admissions website to apply online.
The audition schedule for March 29th is as follows:
- Flag (colorguard): 10:00 am
- Bully’s Belles Dance Team: 10:00 am
- Feature Twirler: 2:30 pm
