The Bulldog Outdoors Club is an official organization of Mississippi
State University within the MSU Club Sports Program. Andrew J. Meador
and Jason A. Cotting first organized the Bulldog Hiking Club in the spring
semester of 1998 due to a lack of local hiking partners and the fact
that most places worth hiking are out of state. In the fall semester
of 2002, Cori Province brought back the club as the Outdoors Club to incorporate
more activities such as rafting, canoeing, and caving.
The BOC has four primary objectives as a club:
1) Aid MSU students, faculty and members of the local community in
finding partners for all sorts of outdoor activities.
2) Educate others in proper outdoors techniques and ethics.
3) Inform people of the available locations to go hiking, camping,
rafting/canoeing, and caving in the southeastern states region.
4) Have lots of FUN!
The BOC experience is one of fellowship and leadership, as well as
education. Being apart of the outdoors is an extremely addictive way of
life. Our goal as a club is to develop a reputation for having a vast
array of members and to demonstrate a responsible approach to enjoying the
thrills of nature. We try to provide a service based off the experience
of the club members, and through this, help others to obtain the same knowledge.
Without a doubt, the best privilege of becoming a member is the long-term
friendships that may develop with other people who share the same interest
in the outdoors.
Currently there is a $15 per year, or $8 per semester, club due for
becoming a member. We understand that getting outdoors is a way for
college students to have fun without having to spend a lot of money and
we would like to keep it that way. The BOC is a place for all experience
levels. If you have an interest in experiencing outdoor activities
and have never been, you are more than welcome to join our club. A
lot has changed since our first trip into the Smokies, especially us.
The gear is always too heavy, but the company is always GREAT!!
Remember, you'll never know if you might enjoy experiencing the outdoors
until you try it, so go out and give it a shot. Just keep in mind
that if you die, we split your gear... ; )
