JUDGING CRITERIA FOR Outstanding Graduate Student

  1. The nominee must be a currently enrolled graduate student majoring in Entomology and Plant Pathology, Mississippi State University

 

  1. For a master nominee, he/she should have completed 2/3 of his/her academic program; for a doctoral nominee, he/she should have completed his/her preliminary exam.

 

  1. Demonstrates academic excellence as judged by his/her GPA and the strength of his/her curriculum

 

  1. Demonstrates evidence of research which include but not limited to publications, and/or paper and/or display presentations

 

  1. Contributes to the department, university and community through outreach activity (e.g., Discovery Days, entomology/plant pathology outreach to pre-K to high school students, science fair etc.)

 

  1. Demonstrates leadership within the student club or professional association(s) (e.g., EPP Club, GSA, MEA, APS, ESA etc.)

 

  1. Teaching experience (graduate student assistants and/or other aspects of teaching and advising)

 

  1. Any other notable or outstanding characteristics which make the nominee exceptional.

ELIGIBILITY for nomination:

 

  1. Must be through a nomination process (nominated by MSU faculty/staff/student)

 

  1. Priority is given to the entomology or plant pathology graduate student who is an active member of the EPP Club (Active means regularly attends monthly meeting and participates in most activities of the club) in the year of nomination and the year before nomination

 

  1. The student is in the latter stages of their program (For a master nominee, he/she should have completed 2/3 of his/her academic program; for a doctoral nominee, he/she should have completed his/her preliminary exam)

 

  1. A student may only receive the award once for each degree but priority will be given to a student who has never received the award

 

The student who would like to be nominated should request someone (see “eligibility for nomination #1” above) to nominate him/her and request the nominator to gather a nomination package on behalf of him/her.  A completed nomination package should be submitted in a sealed envelope to the following address by the deadline:

Documents needed for nomination process:

 

  1. Student’s curriculum vita (max. 4 pages)

 

  1. Nomination letter (no more than one page)

 

  1. A minimum of two but not more than three statements of support (one from major professor, one from another graduate student EPP Club member, the other can be from another faculty member)
