Text Box: the wayside. Beginning with the Spring semester of 2008, the Chapter is required to submit their budget to HC for approval. HC will review that budget, provide support in areas of question and make recommendations and/or changes as we feel are necessary. This practice will allow us to be more proactive in spotting trouble areas and better monitor the activities of the chapter. Money is going to be tight over the next few years and keeping a close eye on expenditures is beneficial to the Chapter and HC alike. Our goal is not to burden the Chapter but to assist them. Successful recruitment and membership retention is critical to the long term stability of the Chapter and HC. With this in mind, HC is now requiring that the Chapter submit a detailed Recruitment Plan and an Academic Achievement Plan for the upcoming year. Both plans are to include recruitment criteria, goals, measureables, dates and accountability for tasks. As with the budget, HC will review this plan and make any recommendations we feel are necessary. This will now become an annual requirement. We have given the Chapter a goal of 40 new Associate Members for the Fall ’08 semester. This is not to be “blanket bidding”. This is to be recruitment derived from criteria that identifies the qualities of a young man that would be an asset to the fraternity. Careful planning and execution of that plan will be Text Box: necessary to achieve the goals we have set for them.
On January 19, I was in Starkville for the initiation of 12 new brothers. It was a pleasure for me to meet each of them and have the opportunity to be a part of their experience. I was very impressed with them and with how they handled themselves. They are certainly an excellent building block for the future. Our new brothers are certainly a group with which we can all be proud.
Looking at the current membership levels, new initiates and graduations, at this point, it looks like the chapter will finish the school year with 30 actives. This is a net membership gain of 9 for the school year. This does not take into account any new members that associate in the Spring ’08 semester. In my discussions with the new group of officers, I believe they fully understand our situation and are committed to the changes that must take place.
