Maroon
Vs. White-2009
White Won
!!
History
was repeated when the White team defeated Maroon team consecutively for
the second time in the edition of Maroon
vs White Exhibition Cricket game-2009 held at club sports
field on Oct 4,2009.Winning the toss Maroon team captain Ashish had put the
White team to bat first. The debutant openers Peter and Pavan gave a good start
to the innings which includes a six by peter. Suddenly white team lost wickets
when Narendra and Ashish had an excellent spell. Then Hemanth stepped in and
gave a good partnership along with Captain Abhinav to tickle the scoreboard
continuously despite of strict bowling spell by Mouthgalya and Chinni. At the
end of innings(14over) white team had put 85 to chase for the Maroon team.
Requiring a six run-rate every over, Maroon team lost early wickets of RamMohan
and Samuel due to magnificient spell by Sourabh Dayal. Then Rakesh and Sourav
Patnaik started to build partnership which includes a six by rakesh and steady
strike rotating by Sourav. After quick fall of those two wickets, a must needed
partnership was made by Ashish and Mouth. At the crucial final overs Vinod Rajan
had a match winning spell along with Hemanth and the Maroon team lost wickets in
quick intervals. At the end of innings the White team restricted Maroon team to
72 making it their second consecutive year to mark a WHITE TEAM WIN over Maroon
team. We sincerely thank Dr Lokesh Shivakumaraiah for presenting the medals for
White and Maroon teams, Arun kumar and Vamshi Guda for umpiring the game. So we
had a good ball to ball game with White team winning the game representing a
good start for the young team.

Vanderbilt Cricket Trophy-2009
MSUCC Won
!!
"GO STATE...GO STATE","MAROON...WHITE","GO DAWGS"...CRICKET...OUR PASSION NEVER CEASES! These were the
screams resounding in the entire field when the captain of MSUCC was handed over
the esteemed Vanderbilt University Cricket Trophy 2009. The road to final
involved defeating University of Memphis, Auburn University and Jackson State
University in the leagues and the semi final.
The exciting tour began
with a game against University of Memphis. They were restricted to a score of 31
off 15 overs. This game showcased excellent bowling by the
MSUCC bowlers with each bowler getting atleast a wicket. A
wonderful bowling performance by Chinni Yalamanchili, earned him the” Man of the
Match” for this game.
The second league match was against QPCC. The score to win for MSUCC was 80 and inspite of trying they could only make 64 off the 15 overs. This defeat led to a
“do or die” game against Auburn University. A motivated talk by
Vinod Rajan served as an inspiration for the team to perform their best in the
remaining games.
The decider game for a spot in the semi finals was even more prestigious to win
as Auburn had recently won the Bulldawg Championship Trophy 2009 held at MSU.
The MSUCC team redeemed itself with a thrilling ball to ball win by chasing a
score of 71. A crucial partnership between Sudhir Koduri and Ashish Jannela was
the backbone of the game. Ashish was awarded the “Man of the
Match” for his admirable captain’s knock.
With its entry into the semi finals, the MSUCC team was pumped up for its game
against Jackson State University. Winning the toss, the team
set up a score of 90 off 15 overs. The burden was onto the bowlers to restrict
the chasing team. The last over was bowled by Vinod Rajan and the opponent team
required 7 runs to win. Two wickets and three dot balls led
to a nail biting victory by 2 runs for MSUCC. Hemanth Kalluri with an
outstanding batting performance was awarded ” Man of the Match”.
The final was against University of Memphis. With already defeating them in the
first league match, the team was now confident to win the tournament. The team decided to bat first after winning the toss. A pivotal
partnership between Vinod Rajan and Rajat Mehrotra contributed towards setting
up a target of 83. A five wicket haul by Hemanth Kalluri was
instrumental in defeating the opponent team. Vinod Rajan earned “Man of the
Match” for his phenomenal batting and bowling.
The overall impressive performance by MSUCC team would not have been possible
without its rest of the players (the wicket keeper Narendra Rongali; the bowlers
Abhinav Agrawal and Piyush Porwal; and the fielders Subbu, RamMohan Reddi,
Rakesh Nalla, Nagendra Karuturi and Ankit Arya).

MSU vs UA, Tuscaloosa
on
May 9, 2009 MSUCC wins!!
Crimson Cricket Club of University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa visited Mississippi
State to play a friendly match against MSU Cricket Club on May 9th, 2009. The
visiting team won the toss and put MSUCC to bat first.
MSUCC batsmen faced troubles as the team lost two quick wickets after a
steady start. The situation started to go out of control for MSUCC and that is
when Sourav came to the team's rescue. Sourav played a wonderful knock
anchoring the innings, scoring 21 runs which included two boundaries. MSUCC
scored 72 runs in 16 overs.
Defending a total of 72 runs, which, given the day's playing conditions was
not as easy as it may be assumed, MSUCC bowlers began their proceedings under
immense pressure.
Defending a total of 72 runs, which, given the day's playing conditions was
not as easy as it may be assumed, MSUCC bowlers began their proceedings under
immense pressure. Captain Mouthgalya bowled a fiery spell taking 4 wickets
missing out on a hat-trick in his third over. RamMohan bowled an excellent
spell, missing out on a hat-trick, taking three crucial wickets that put the
UAT batsmen further in the back seat. Vice-Captain Hamanth Kalluri took 1
wicket. The game went into a nail-biting finish when the visiting team had to
score 15 runs in the last 2 overs of their innings with 2 wickets in hand.
MSUCC bowlers displayed courage and discipline as they pulled off a thriller
finish, containing the batsmen from scoring the runs they needed badly. The UAT
batsmen stood there, looking puzzled, as they realized they were still short of
their target by 7 runs when their innings ended.
In the end, it was MSUCC which emerged a deserving winner of this cracker of
a match which had the final result uncertain until the last moment. With this
7-run victory over UAT, which happens to be the second victory against UAT in
the past 8 months, MSUCC continues on its winning streak which began more than
a year ago.

MSU vs UA, Tuscaloosa on September 6, 2008  MSUCC wins!!
MSU Cricket Club Team played University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa on September
6th on their turf and won the 16-over match convincingly. MSUCC team captain
Mouthgalya won the toss and elected to bowl. Alabama batsmen could hardly
connect their bats with the ball and all they could manage was a paltry 48.
MSUCC bowlers dominated the game again as the opponents were all out for 48.
The pitch was damp due to rain and that forced us to concede some extras. But
it did not hurt us badly because Alabama wickets were falling at regular
intervals. Our batting was good except for a couple of quick wickets that fell
in the beginning. Debutant opener Archit played a wonderful innings cleanly
striking the ball even as it was cutting unpredictably on the damp pitch. When
we were 5 wickets down our captain Mouthgalya stepped in to finish the game
along with Vinod in the 12th over of the innings. In the end, it was MSU
Cricket Club winning the match convincingly. It is to be noted that MSUCC is
maintaining a winning rate of over 86% since its founding in 2002 and is
remaining unbeaten since March, 2008. Go Dawgs!!!

at the end Maroon won it by 6 runs. Maroons winning the toss elected to bat first and were restricted to a score of 80 in 16 overs. Whites came
out strongly in chasing the target and at one point they were about to break the jinx of Maroon winning over white but crucial run outs of

It is always exciting to watch MSU and OleMiss cricket match and this saturday was no exception.Winning the toss MSU opted to bowl first to make use of the dew on the pitch. The plan worked out as the OleMiss batsmen kept losing wickets until Prasad came in and scored blazzing 55 runs. The UAB team reached the target with the third ball of the last over. The team was lead by Prabhuram and he was also the top scorer with 29. Congratulations to the team on maintaining an unbeaten record against Tuscaloosa. Prashant and Nanda provided the solidity and fireworks we needed from the batting order. Phani gave a great account of himself in his debut game with some quick scoring. If fact, both the debutants, Phani and Sudhir played very well.
