History of the MSU Block and Bridle Club
The
national Block and Bridle club was originally known as the Animal Husbandry Club
of Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. The national B&B colors are royal
purple and navy blue and the flower is the lilac. The national emblem is a large
"B" with a meat block and a bridle in each half. The meat block in the upper
half represents the material aspects of our life and our profession, and the
bridle in the bottom half of the "B" stands for the behavior of the B&B
members, the control over ourselves that we try to maintain, the mannerisms and
respect we show toward others, and the manner with which we treat animals.
The Mississippi State Block and
Bridle Club was chartered in 1930 as the Mississippi State University Saddle and
Sirloin Club. Our club's objectives are to promote
a higher scholastic standard among the students of Mississippi State University
with an interest in livestock, the livestock industry in general, and to bring
about a
closer
relationship among the students at MSU sharing a common interest in livestock.
Students that are interested in agriculture, livestock or any
agriculture-related field and plan to attend MSU are invited to join Block and
Bridle. During the school year, many exciting activities take place. These
activities include an annual crawfish boil, Little International Livestock Show,
Bulldog Stampede (collegiate rodeo), Dixie National Livestock Judging Contest,
Parking trailers at Mississippi State Fair, Pledge Cookout, Pledge Sale,
Halloween on the Farm, Halloween Hoedown, Formal, Flag Football team, Steak
Soiree' and the Block & Bridle National Convention, which will be held in
Florida this January.

All members and pledges work together in a close-knit atmosphere to make these
events successful. Each year our pledge class grows, making the Block and Bridle
club the largest student organization in the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences. We can credit the large increase in size due to the fact that the club
has frequent social activities which create strong friendships between the
members. The Mississippi State Chapter of the Block and Bridle Club represents
over twenty majors at MSU. B&B Meetings are held every 1st, 3rd, and 5th
Wednesday of the month.
